The Scientific Miracles of the Quran: The Speed of Light

Published

on

The Quran contains two verses that served as a basis for calculating the speed of light. The first verse is this one:

يدبر الأمر من السماء إلى الأرض ثم يعرج إليه في يوم كان مقداره ألف سنة مما تعدون (32: 5

“From heaven to earth, He administers the matter, which then ascends to Him in a day equivalent to a thousand years of your calculation” (The prostration s32 v5)

Muslim scientists have estimated that the phrase “your calculation” assumes that it is most likely lunar years. These last give to this verse the following interpretation: the cosmic affair crosses the sky with a speed and travels a distance in a day equal to what the moon travels in 1000 lunar years that is to say 12000 lunar months sidereal.

From this data, they have developed a series of equations and analyzes that have produced results that are close to, if not identical to, the work of Western scientists who preceded them in this field.

Thus, concerning the speed of light, the professor of physics at Cairo’s Ain Shams University, Mansour Hassab-Elnaby deduces the precise value of 299792.5 km / s!

Another proposal on the same subject comes from the verse: “The Angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one day, the duration of which is fifty thousand years.” Degrees s70 v4).

There is no doubt that the Qur’an draws our attention to the relationship between the speed of movement of Angels (the Spirit being also an Angel) in heaven and that of human beings on earth.

According to Professor Kamel Ben Salem, the Koran introduces a term of equality between the path that could accomplish a landlord in 50,000 years and that performed by a celestial creature in one day. On this basis, he undertakes a series of mathematical operations that have led to conclusive results in the speed of light. It’s precisely 300,000 kilometers per second, he concludes.

The scientific miracles of the Qur’an: the speed of light

Hello,

In the two above-mentioned verses, is there not contradiction over the duration of a day? Sometimes a day equals 1000 years, sometimes it is equivalent to 50,000 years?

The scientific miracles of the Qur’an: the speed of light

Hello,

Recall first the verses in question: يدبر الأمر من السماء إلى الأرض ثم يعرج إليه في يوم كان مقداره ألف سنة مما تعدون 32: 5

“From heaven to earth, He administers the matter, which then ascends to Him in a day equivalent to a thousand years of your calculation” (The prostration s32 v5))

تعرج الملائكة والروح إليه في يوم كان مقداره خمسين ألف سنة = المعارج 4

“The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one day, the duration of which is fifty thousand years” (The Degrees s70 v4)

There is no contradiction in these verses. God never contradicts himself. These verses have been the subject of different interpretations.

Among the old exegetes, some of whom Ibn Abbes did not pronounce at all on their meaning.

Others have simply affirmed that it is the days of the hereafter, as the day of the last judgment. Others still speak of the duration of the day with God, without further precision.

And among contemporary scholars, some have translated the word “day” by period, others ensure that these two verses serve as a basis for calculating the speed of light, as mentioned above.

In fact, I prefer not to answer that to venture into the unknown and give false answers. What is certain: Through these verses, God teaches us truths about the cosmos, its vast expanse, the speed of light and angels, the notion of time that differs from one planet to another, from one system to another, from one galaxy to another and on astronomical data that elude us and to which He implicitly invites us to reflect.

It is undeniable that these verses give us an idea of the greatness of the universe. The extent of it is difficult to apprehend by human reason, it is unimaginable.

It has been scientifically established that the size of the universe is infinite and that its expansion continues indefinitely. The only visible universe represents only a “grain of dust in relation to the complete universe”.

The visible universe contains 350 billion galaxies and each galaxy contains hundreds of billions of stars.

The Sun is one of the few hundreds of billions of stars that make up our galaxy, the Milky Way. The distance between the sun and one of its planets varies from 58 million km (Mercury) to 5950 million km, for example between Pluto and the sun. Neptune is 4500 million km from the sun, and the land is 150 million km.

In addition to the speed of light that was determined from these verses, the apparent divergence between these two passages could express the difference between the speed of light and that of angels that could be estimated at 6,000 km per second from of these data.

Insofar as the same distance made by the light in a day equivalent to 1000 years, is traversed by the angels in a day equivalent to 50 000 years. The proportion is therefore 1 / 50th, ie 300,000 x 1/50 = 6000 km per second.

Also, through these verses, God draws our attention to the relativity of the notions of time and space in that the day, the month and the year vary from one planet to another, for example: the day on our planet earth is equal to 24 hours. The month is equal to 30 days and the year 12 months.

While on the planet Mercury, the day is equal to 88 days today (88 x 24 h). And the year on Mercury equals only one day of its days because it revolves around itself in 88 days and it turns around the sun in 88 days also.

At the level of Venus, the day is equal to 30 days today (30 x 24 hours), but the year is equal to 7 months of our months.

The day on Jupiter is 9, 92 hours, the year is equal to 11 years and 314.84 days of our years.

The day on Mars is almost the same as our 24.62 hour day, but the year is about double our years, or 686,980 days today.

At the level of Saturn, the day is equal to 10, 66 hours but the year is equal to 29 years and 166.98 days of our years.

The day in Neptune is equal to 16, 11 hours, about two thirds of our day and the year is equal to 164 years and 281.3 days of our years.

On Pluto, the day is equal to 6.39 days today, (ie 6.39 x 24 h), but the year is equal to 247 years 362 days of our years.

This is only an example of the solar system. It is located in the Milky Way, a spiral galaxy with a diameter of about 100,000 light years containing 200 billion stars.

The light-year, already mentioned in the article above, is a unit of length (symbol al), which corresponds to the distance traveled by light in a vacuum in one year, at a rate of 300 000 km / s ; it is equivalent to 9,461,101,200 km or, in round numbers: ten thousand billion kilometers.

The Sun resides in one of the outer spiral arms of the galaxy, between 25,000 and 28,000 light-years away from the galactic center. It evolves at about 220 km / s and performs a revolution in 225 to 250 million years, a year galactic.

What about hundreds of billions of galaxies each containing hundreds of billions of stars around each of them gravitate to thousands of planets and around each planet turn dozens, even hundreds of satellites and other celestial bodies such as comets.

It thus appears that the notion, the measure and the criteria of time and space with God and which correspond to the reality of the cosmic systems are fundamentally different from ours, we the inhabitants of the earth.

However, far from contradicting each other, these verses translate at the same time truths and astronomical teachings exact, precious and incontestable.

I thank you for this very pertinent question and in the hope of convincing you, I beg you to accept the expression of my best feelings.
