Brassaï which is the pseudonym of Gyula Halász born in Hungary in 1989. Brassai was an internationally famous Photographer, Sculptor and Filmmaker of the Twentieth Century. Many of his letters, personal diary and other literature on him was discovered which led to a lot of publications in several languages. This happened mainly due to his association and links with some of the Greatest Artist, Filmmakers and Politicians of his time which helped historians dig deep into many people lives. Many of Brassai’s Photographic Prints are sold as Posters, Fine Art Photographic Prints and Wall Art across the Globe and India. Gyula Halasz was born in Hungary to an American mother and Hungarian father. He grew up speaking Hungarian as a language. As a young man he learned painting and sculptor in the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts at Budapest. He later joined the cavalry regiment of Hungary Army and served till the end of First World War. Brassai later went to Berlin and worked as a Photojournalist for Hungarian Newspaper. During his stay in Berlin he also got an opportunity to befriend famous artists such as Lajos Tihanyi ,Bertalan Por, and the writer Gyorgy Boloni. Four years after his arrival in Berlin he moved to France where his family once lived during his childhood. He self tought himself French language and became a journalist. In France he befriended American artist Henry Miller, French Artist Leon Paul and Jacqus Prevert. Brassai’s love for photography increased with his habit of wandering late at night on the street s of Paris. During his early times he used those photographs as a means to earn some extra money out of his articles by offering photographs as supplements but later took it as a main occupation as he continued to capture this beautiful city by night. A Book titled Paris by Night was published in the year 1933 which got instant success and fame as being mentioned “The Eye of Paris”. Along with portraying he quite side of Paris he also photographed the High Socialite society and culture of Paris city. Brassai also got a chance to photograph his friends and famous artist like Slavador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Alberto Giacometti. During the next decades Brassai developed a reputation as a great photographer as he continued to work persistently in the Hungarian circles and also happened to befriend many more famous artist and writers of his times in Europe. His photographs alsp brought him international fame as a Solo Exhibition was organized in USA at Museum of Modern Art along with other famous Art Museums of the world. In 1956 Brassai also directed a film on Animals which was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival as Best Original Film. Thus this Photographer had an artistic eye and view to capture the nighttime’s ambience of Paris which gained him immense popularity. Thus it can be said that his works as well as association with Great Artist and Writers of those times gave him an exposure that many photographer, journalist, filmmakers and sculptors look forwards to . Brasia died in 1984 leaving behind a legacy and wealth worth Millions of Dollars.
